-- John 14:26-27
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you; My Peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Joy is like restless day;
But Peace divine like quiet night;
Lead me, O Lord --
Till perfect day shall shine
Through Peace to Light.

Jesus is called the "Prince of Peace" in the Bible (Isaiah 9:6), which tells a lot about how His followers are to live. God doesn't want you to be stressed out or full of worry. He wants you to live in freedom from all that tries to hold you down. That's tough if you think it is a sign of weakness to be at Peace with yourself. If you can't fret and get worked up about things, what else is there for you to do?
Does living a Peace-filled life mean that God will arrange your life in such a way that you'll face no uncertainties and have clear sailing through life? No. In fact, life may be harder for a follower, but God will equip you with a supernatural Peace to help keep your focus on Him no matter what. A lot of men throughout history -- strong men -- lived with Peace in their hearts and trusted God in all circumstances.
The shepherd boy David had every right to be nervous when he confronted Goliath, considering David's size, the giant's stature, and the fear among the great warriors of his people's army. But God brought a Peace over him and gave him confidence that he could defeat the enemy (1 Samuel 17.) Do you have a Goliath threatening you? Ask God to give your heart the same kind of Peace.
God pared down Gideon's army from thirty thousand to three hundred before He sent them off to fight. Surely Gideon had good reason to get bent out of shape and to worry. Yet God gave him Peace about the situation so that he could trust God rather than himself or his men (Judges 7.) Are you relying too much on everything and everyone but Him?
To bring the idea of God's Peace closer to home, talk to someone who lived through the Great Depression or fought in World War II. That generation, though faced with seeming insurmountable odds, remained calm through their trying circumstances and trusted largely upon an unwavering faith in God.
God does not grant Peace to only a select few. He offers it to all who would believe in Him. The next time you are in a situation where the weight of the world seems to be on your shoulders, stop and turn your attention to the God who promises to give you a Peace that passes all understanding.
